Professor Karen K. Gleason
Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor

Professor Gleason, a widely published worldwide authority in chemical vapor deposition technology as well as the namesake of the company, “Gleason Vapor Deposition,” is the inventor of GVD’s nanotechnology. She has been Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT since 1988 and recently was appointed Executive Director of the Department. Gleason is the first tenured female Professor of Chemical Engineering in MIT’s history. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

When not teaching or inventing, Karen can be found at the MIT swimming pool doing laps or, clad in scuba gear, communing with marine life around the globe.

Hilton played a key role in the development of GVD’s technology during his years as a graduate student at MIT and his activities inspired him to create GVD. Prior to founding GVD, Hilton consulted on operations and technical issues for Dow Chemical, Merck Pharmaceuticals, and Koch Refining. Hilton holds a B.Sci.Eng. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT.

When not pioneering technologies, Hilton can be found above the ground flying light aircraft, or on the ground, jamming on drums.
