R&D Engineer

Job Description:
We are looking for an R&D engineer to assist with the development and commercialization of proprietary vacuum coating technology.
Primary responsibility will be to play a leading role in 1-2 R&D projects to customize coating technology for specific applications. This involves producing coated prototypes, testing them, optimizing the process to improve performance, and ultimately scaling up the process to larger samples. Specifically, the applicant will need to:

  • Assist in the development and evolution of an experimental plan to achieve project goals.
  • Assemble the equipment necessary to perform the experiments, and prepare protocols for its use.
  • Execute the experimental plan for your assigned R&D projects, including preparing prototypes, performing chemical analysis and testing, and writing detailed reports regarding your activities, findings, and recommendations.
  • Summarize and discuss results with GVD staff and customers, and make recommendations for next steps.
  • Meet administrative requirements of R&D projects such as progress reports, budget tracking, etc.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Interface directly with customers on technical matters related to GVD technology. This may include infrequent travel to customer sites.
  • Provide input on ways to enhance/improve existing processes and procedures in conjunction with manufacturing and quality initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.  No H1B, F1 or other candidates considered.

Applicant should have a BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemistry and preferably 2 years industry experience in research and development and/or process development. Experience with vacuum equipment is especially desirable.
Applicants should be detail-oriented, effective at planning and organizing, self-motivated, and result-driven. In addition, applicant should possess the following qualities:

  • Proven critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills: able to articulate and document ideas quickly and clearly.
  • Hands-on, practical, and able to test new concepts in the lab quickly.
  • Flexible, willing, and able to come up to speed quickly in disparate areas of R&D.
Applicants must be comfortable with the dynamic culture of a small, team-oriented high-growth company. Applicants will need to work independently but not alone, as much of the work will require collaboration and communication with many people, both inside and outside the company. Our fast-paced environment requires versatility and patience, but will be rewarding to those up to the challenge.
