Mechanical Engineer

GVD Corporation is a Cambridge-based company that provides ultra-thin polymer coatings based on a technology originally developed at MIT, that has applications in multiple industries ranging from microelectronics to manufacturing. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our engineering and R&D teams in capacities including mechanical design, process automation, and deposition system design, assembly, and qualification.

This is a unique opportunity to be an integral member of a team developing tools and equipment that will enable the growth and expansion of our business.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in, and in some cases, manage the design of deposition systems and supporting components.
  • Manage the manufacturing, both contracted and in-house, of custom coating systems, assisting in all phases including startup, qualification, and debugging.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment and control problems at local and remote facilities.
  • Ensure reliable operation of deposition systems and associated instruments through management of preventative maintenance program, while maintaining an accurate inventory of equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for, and manage improvements to existing process equipment and industrial control systems
  • Serve as the go-to resource for equipment, systems, and instrumentation related questions for both R&D and production teams.

Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering and 2-5 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, preferably in a PDM environment.
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, etc.
  • Experience with vacuum technology or design for vacuum environments is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation systems and SQL databases, or an eagerness to learn.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative, elegant, and robust solutions to complex problems.
  • Willingness to assist in all aspects of the design and assembly process, ranging from initial concept development to final installation and troubleshooting.
  • Ideal candidates are comfortable working with their hands and are not afraid to roll up their sleeves to solve a problem.
