R&D Technician

GVD Corporation is a Cambridge-based company that provides ultra-thin polymer coatings based on a technology originally developed at MIT, that has applications in multiple industries ranging from microelectronics to manufacturing. We are seeking an R&D Technician to assist with the development and commercialization of proprietary vacuum coating technology

US Citizens ONLY. No H1B, F1 or other visa candidates and no green card holders will be considered.

This technician will primarily work on development projects to tailor coating technology to specific applications.


  • Become proficient with a proprietary vacuum coating process.
  • Assist senior team members with the performance of coating depositions, optimization of existing coating processes and systems, as well as the development of new coating systems.
  • Receive, prepare, and process parts for coating following standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and protocols, which may involve incoming inspection, cleaning, masking, and coating operations.
  • Perform quality control testing and analytical testing for process optimization.
  • Maintain careful inventory of all parts through all stages of processing.
  • Help troubleshoot process anomalies.
  • Document all work in detail; summarize results of coating experiments in written reports, and discuss results with senior staff, making recommendations for next steps.


  • AS in Engineering, Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of industry experience is preferred. Equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience with vacuum equipment is especially desirable.
  • Applicants should be detail-oriented, effective at planning and organizing, self-motivated, and result-driven. In addition, applicant should possess the following qualities:
  • Ability to demonstrate technical competence within their given field of expertise.
  • Hands-on: Dexterity and detail are key; ability to perform laboratory tasks according to SOP’s, but also troubleshoot general process issues in a creative, timely manner.
  • Good time-management skills: ability to juggle changing priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to quality and safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform successfully on teams and maintain strong working relationships with engineers, consultants, and other specialists.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills: able to articulate and document ideas quickly and clearly.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, and general computer proficiency.
